Full-time PA - Parkinsons Support

General insight to the Role:

The role will involve working with an adult service user on a 1;1 basis with moderate Parkinson’s in a homely environment, supporting the individual to be as independent as possible and access the community on a regular basis. This will include planning and executing trips and outings that are of preference to the individual allowing them to engage with the community and experience environments that benefit them, outside of the residential setting.

Not everyone with Parkinson’s has the same symptoms and they don’t appear in a particular order, progress at the same speed or in the same way. Many people find that how the condition affects them can change from day to day, and even from hour to hour. With this in mind you must be able to adapt your working approach accordingly.

Key Responsibilities & Insight of Parkinson’s:

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition. People with Parkinson’s don’t have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some of the nerve cells in the brain that produce it are no longer active.

Without dopamine, people can find that their movements become slower, so it takes longer to do things. Symptoms often associated with Parkinson’s are tremor and stiffness, but the condition doesn’t just affect movement and there is a range of other symptoms.

You will work as part of a small team following a flexible shift pattern completing 12-hour shifts (8am-8pm / 8pm-8am) depending on your day or night work preference. Your duties will enable the service users to maximise their social, emotional, and physical independence, in line with the individual service user’s support plan and risk assessments. Ensuring that individual plans, are implemented and reviewed in a timely way with any changes being communicated to the relevant people. This role involves lone working.

Aspects of personal care will be required including assisting to wash, dress and toileting requirements.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality, responsive and flexible service to individuals enabling and promoting independence.
  • Contribute and support the delivery of services through joint working with colleagues, managers and professionals to meet the needs of the individual using the service
  • Maintain standards of practice and performance in accordance with service policies and procedures escalating incidents as necessary
  • Ensuring quality standards are maintained by facilitating service development, identifying opportunities and experiences for service users to meet the needs and aspirations of individuals
  • Attend training days to meet mandatory training expectations.

Experience Required:

  • Experience in the adult provider sector working in related fields.
  • Proof of ability to work within the UK.
  • Working to policies and procedures
  • Understanding of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding in a care home setting
